Soursop

Native to the Caribbean and the tropical Americas, soursop—also known as graviola or guanabana—now grows throughout much of the tropical and subtropical world, including southern China, Southeast Asia, and India. A member of the custard apple family, this unique fruit is prized for its creamy, pulpy texture and complex flavor.

Soursop’s white flesh, dotted with large dark seeds, offers a delicious medley of flavors—reminiscent of apple, strawberry, citrus, and even a hint of pineapple, all balanced with a slight tartness. While it can be enjoyed fresh, it’s also popular in juices, smoothies, milkshakes, sorbets, ice cream, and candy. Some even use its leaves to make tea, though the flavor differs from the fruit itself.

Beyond its taste, soursop is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, with notable amounts of potassium, fiber, magnesium, and thiamine, plus smaller amounts of iron, folate, and other essential nutrients.

When available, you can find soursop at Uwajimaya in our produce department.
