We’re Remodeling our Seattle Store
Exciting changes are coming to Uwajimaya! Starting this fall we will be updating our Seattle store to improve your shopping experience, so things will look a little different around here for a while. We are committed to providing the same level of service you have come to expect from our team during this time. This project will be implemented in phases to allow us to remain open during construction. There will be something new to see each week, be sure to stop by and see our progress.
It’s been 20 years since we moved to our current location in Seattle’s historic Chinatown International District and it is time for a refresh. We’ve spent a lot of time designing the store to meet the unique needs of you, our shopper, as well as the store. We are excited with the new layout of the store and believe it will make your shopping experience easier and more enjoyable.
Some features of this remodel include:
- Enhanced sashimi experience – Full service counter featuring the highest quality fish cut-to-order, ready cut and our fresh poke by the pound.
- Expanded BBQ offerings – Whether dining in our updated food hall or taking home, we’ll have delicious traditional BBQ’d meats and sides.
- Emphasized seafood, meat and produce selections – Organized and easy to shop with our skilled employees ready to assist all your needs.
- All new refrigeration, cases and lighting – Updated for the lowest energy consumption.
Construction is set to begin this November and wrap up in the fall of 2020.

Construction in our deli department has begun. Don’t worry, our deli department has not closed down. We are working hard to keep as many of your favorite products available to you during the remodel. While our BBQ offerings are unavailable during this time, our hot food bar will be. It has moved to a temporary location across the food hall and will remain open during construction. We’re excited for the changes in the deli and can’t wait to show it to you in the spring. Thank you for your patience during this time.
Our gift department remodel is coming along well and will be revealed in the weeks to come. Stay tuned!

We started our remodel in November, beginning with the transformation of the health and beauty, housewares and gift sections that are expected to be unveiled in late January.
The store will continue to remain fully open during the duration of the project into 2020, as the construction moves into different sections. Shortly after New Years, we will begin work on the Deli department and continue to serve your favorites in a new location within the Food Hall.

It’s official…our remodel has begun! Last week, our gift department crew worked hard to move product out of the department so renovation could begin. Don’t worry, the products aren’t gone – they just aren’t where you’re used to finding them. Our bowls and dishes have moved behind produce, health and beauty items are now against the wall next to Kinokuniya Bookstore and some items moved in front of sake and deli.
Here’s one last look at the gift department. A wall has since gone up around this area. Are you excited to see the changes?
