Wonton

Thinly-wrapped Chinese dumplings, wontons have been a beloved part of many regional Chinese cuisines—from Canton to Sichuan and all the way to Beijing—for centuries.

Wontons come in many varieties, both regionally and in terms of preparation, and are distinct from other Chinese dumplings due to a few key factors. One defining feature is their delicate, ultra-thin wrapping, which is thinner than that of most other dumplings. Additionally, wontons are typically filled more sparingly, allowing the texture of the wrapper to shine.

The most common wonton fillings are pork and shrimp, often with aromatics like chives, garlic, and/or ginger. Chicken-filled wontons are also popular.

Wontons are most often boiled and served in soup or enjoyed on their own with chili oil or other sauces. Other preparation styles include deep-frying, pan-frying, steaming, or even grilling.

Wontons can be found pre-made and frozen in our grocery department for convenient use. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, pick up wonton wrappers and fresh ingredients to create your own delicious homemade version!
